Pima Cotton from Yorkshire Linen Beds & More

Egyptian cotton is popular the world over when looking for quality bedlinen but we are now stocking a product that we think is even better.

Pima cotton originates from South America, mainly Peru, and the extra long, staple cotton produced by the Pima cotton plant spins in to a long, silky fibre that produces a luxurious, soft fabric that is incredibly strong and durable. It is resistant to pilling, wrinkling, tearing, fraying and even fading!

Our Pima cotton has been manufactured by Belledorm who we love for the high standards of everything they produce, we have clients who have purchased Belledorm bedlinen from us over 10 years ago and it is still like brand new.

White Pima Cotton Sateen Pillowcases by Belledorm

These white Pima cotton sateen pillowcases are part of the Belledorm 450TC range -- one of the most comprehensive and consistently well-regarded collections of premium bed linen available in Spain. Made from 100% Pima cotton at 450 thread count with a sateen weave, they represent a significant step up from standard cotton pillowcases, both in terms of how they feel against the skin and how long they last.

Pima cotton is grown primarily in Peru, where the extended growing season and particular soil conditions produce a fibre with an unusually long staple length. That length is what matters: longer fibres spin into a finer, smoother, stronger yarn than shorter-staple cotton can produce. The result is a fabric that feels silky to the touch, resists pilling and fraying through repeated washing, and holds its colour and finish far better than conventional cotton over time. Belledorm customers regularly report that their Pima cotton bed linen still looks and feels excellent after ten or more years of regular use -- a lifespan that most bed linen cannot come close to matching.

The sateen weave adds another layer of quality. Unlike a standard percale weave, sateen exposes more of the yarn's surface, which creates a subtle lustre and a softness that is immediately noticeable. It also drapes more fluidly, which is particularly pleasing for pillowcases where the fabric falls naturally rather than sitting stiffly.

Four pillowcase styles are available in this white colourway: a housewife style at 50 x 75 cm, an Oxford style at 50 x 75 cm with a flat border, a bolster style for king-size or Spanish pillows, and a continental style at 65 x 65 cm. Having all four formats available in the same fabric and shade makes it straightforward to dress a bed consistently, regardless of the pillow sizes in use. The full coordinating range -- fitted sheets, flat sheets, and duvet covers -- is available in matching white.

Is Pima Cotton Better Than Egyptian Cotton for Bed Linen?

It is a fair question, and one that comes up regularly when people encounter Pima cotton for the first time. Egyptian cotton has had decades of marketing behind it and is widely understood as a byword for quality. Pima cotton is less familiar to many buyers -- but among those who know their bed linen, it is increasingly regarded as the superior fibre.

Both are long-staple cottons, which is what sets them apart from standard cotton. Long-staple fibres produce finer, stronger yarn, which translates directly into softer, more durable fabric. The key difference is that the term "Egyptian cotton" refers to the country of origin rather than the species or quality of the plant, and the standard of Egyptian cotton varies considerably depending on the supplier and growing conditions. The very best Egyptian cotton is exceptional; a great deal of what is sold under that label is significantly less impressive.

Pima cotton, by contrast, is a specific species -- Gossypium barbadense -- grown primarily in Peru, where the climate and altitude produce reliably long fibres with consistent quality. The Belledorm range uses Peruvian Pima cotton that is woven at 450 thread count in a sateen construction, which produces a fabric that is both notably softer and more resilient than most Egyptian cotton products at the same or higher price point.

The practical evidence is in the longevity. Pima cotton at this thread count resists pilling, fraying, wrinkling, and fading in ways that standard or even good-quality Egyptian cotton often cannot. For bed linen that is washed frequently -- as it is in any home or rental property -- that durability translates into genuine long-term value. The initial price is higher than entry-level cotton; the cost per year of use is considerably lower.

The Belledorm Pima 450TC range is available in four colourways -- white, ivory, platinum, and oyster -- with coordinating pillowcases, fitted sheets, flat sheets, and duvet covers in each shade.

Where Can I Buy Belledorm Pima Cotton Bed Linen on the Costa del Sol?

Yorkshire Linen Beds & More on the Ctra. Mijas-Fuengirola, Km 3.5, in Mijas, Malaga, is one of the very few physical retailers in southern Spain stocking the Belledorm Pima Cotton Sateen 450TC range. Belledorm is a British brand with a strong reputation for quality, but it is not widely distributed through Spanish retail channels -- which means that for most buyers in the region, Yorkshire Linen is the most practical place to see and buy this range in person.

Being able to handle the fabric before purchasing matters more with a premium product like this than it does with everyday linen. The difference that a sateen weave and long-staple Pima cotton make to the feel of a pillowcase is immediately apparent when you pick one up -- it is the kind of tactile quality that is difficult to convey through product photography or written descriptions. The team in store can walk you through the differences between the four colourways in natural light, which is also useful since the distinction between white, ivory, platinum, and oyster is subtler than it sounds and depends considerably on the lighting conditions in your bedroom.

The shop is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm, and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Online orders are shipped to mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, and Portugal, with free delivery on orders over 65 euros and all taxes included in the price.
